Although its official title is the Westbourne and District Allotment and Gardeners Association, the Allotments Association is how this society is known. Although the present association was founded in the late 1930's there has been a horticultural society in the village for over 100 years and it currently has over 100 members.
The site is owned by the parish council and leased to the association. There are 103 allotments between the back of the village school and Foxbury Lane. At a cost of £12 pa for a plot, plus an annual £2 membership fee, plots are hard to come by so be prepared to join a long waiting list.
According to the association’s secretary, Jo Tattersall, there is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere between fellow plot holders. Every August they hold the Horticultural Show on top of which are three outings organised each year to other gardening shows or open gardens. The committee members, tend to meet seven times a year apart from the AGM, which all members and the public may attend.
