No 11 bus service from Westbourne to Chichester

At www.westsussex.gov.uk/buses There is a survey running now and one of the routes is Route 11 Emsworth & District - the bus that runs from Thorney/ Emsworth Hospital/Westbourne Square-Commonside/Southbourne/Chichester Bus Station and vice versa.

The uptake in Westbourne may not be great, but it may be essential to some of the older population, so any encouragement we can give passengers to fill this is will be beneficial. Copies of the survey are being handed to passengers by the bus drivers.

At the moment the survey is just fact finding - no decisions have been made (contrary to rumours that are around the route is to be axed.

more...  for details and how to get involved

Many villagers will know of the UK’s 20’s Plenty for Us campaign for 20 mph limits where people live without humps. Casualties reduce by over 20% where 20 mph is introduced.  Villages like Westbourne with narrow streets can particularly benefit.

The local 20’s Plenty for Westbourne campaign and Parish Council would like to gauge local support and ask for people to get involved in campaigning for Westbourne to become a 20 mph village.  West Sussex County Council are the highway authority to convince.

Westbourne in the first world war

Westbourne Local History Group is embarking on a project to compile a history of the village and its people during the first world war.

One aim is to collect as much information as possible about the men whose names appear on the war memorial in the churchyard, as well as the four who are buried in Westbourne Cemetery.

We are also keen to learn about other villagers who served in any of the armed forces, and we will be building up a picture of life on the home front between 1914 and 1918.

If you have any family memories or photographs of that period that you would like to share, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact either Nigel Peake (01243 372718) or Peter Barge (01243 374409).
